Forestry Services Available
Planting
Was your land recently logged? Or did you experience fire damage that burned some of your forest? We’d be happy to come in and plant trees or shrubs to reforest your land. On average, we recommend planting 222 trees per acre.
Grass Seeding
After any human or natural disturbances, you may want to grass seed the disturbed areas to prevent water or wind erosion and prevent noxious weed invasion.
Fuel Reduction
This can encompass any forest management practices that reduce fire hazards on the property. This includes: piling slash either by hand or by mechanical means, slash disposal either by slash burning or chipping, pruning trees, and cutting unmerchantable or undesirable trees.
Thinning
A thinned forest is a healthy forest. Over crowded forests can become stagnated and diseased. They are a greater fire-risk during fire season. Our crews provide pre-commercial and commercial thinning services to keep trees healthy and productive for years to come.
Timber Harvesting
In stands that are overstocked with merchantable trees, FMS can harvest the excess trees. We prioritize the removal of dead, dying or diseased trees. The next priority is to remove trees to optimize growing conditions to allow trees to get the most sunlight, water and nutrients. Spacing also reduces fire hazards by makes space between trees and reduces ladder fuels.
Fire Services
Our cumulative experience in fire management practices exceeds 65 years. Our extensive experience includes slash burning, most aspects of firefighting, running mechanical equipment on fires, and site rehabilitation after fires. We can work in Montana, Idaho, Oregon and North Dakota.

Fire Suppression
Each year we have a ten-man fire module who is contracted to the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. This crew has a mixture of hard-working men and women with differing levels of experience but the same level of dedication and commitment to each other and the goals of the tasks at hand. Each year’s training produces a cohesive teamwork atmosphere that serves the high-energy tasks that face this industry. We expect our crew to commit to physical, classroom and field training. Our work will include digging fire-lines, running hose lays, operating pumps, and taking weather measurements.
Burning Operations
We provide burning services where fuel reduction goals are necessary. This includes burning piles of slash, broadcast burning, jackpot burning, and/or backburning.
Site Rehab
Was your land recently logged? Or did you experience fire damage that burned some of your forest? We’d be happy to come in and plant trees, bushes or grass-seed desired areas based on your management goals whether it’s for aesthetic purposes or to minimize erosion or weed invasion.
Fire Equipment
We can supply a D5 Pumper-Cat machine that carries a 250 gallon tank of water, a forwarder that carries a 2200 gallon tank of water and an excavator with a grapple bucket to aid in fire suppression activities. We also have a John Deere 450G cat equipped with a 6-way hydraulic straight blade and brush blade for fire-line construction and a Timbco with a logmax 6000 processing head for fire-line clearing and hazard tree removal.

Snow Plowing
FMS can handle all of your snow removal needs, from plowing to sidewalk snow removal and salting/sanding.
Handwash Station
We have an independent handwash station that we rent out to both public and private individuals for special events or wildland fire camps. It is a stand alone station with 8 sinks, a water tank, soap and towels. It can be manned by a FMS team member at all times.
